While the monsoons bring a certain relief from the scorching heat, a continual downpour can result in a lot of difficulties, especially in the slum clusters. According to reports, one woman and two girls went missing after they fell in an open drain, located at the backside of their room in Trimurti Chawl in Santacruz East, today morning. NDRF teams are carrying out rescue operations at the moment.

In other news, a part of the hill on Western Express Highway near Malad collapsed on Tuesday morning disrupting traffic on the highway. The Mumbai Police had earlier notified that owing to waterlogging, vehicular movement along Hindmata Flyover, Andheri Subway, Malad Subway, Milan Subway, King Circle, Shindewadi and Dadar are to be diverted.

According to the IMD, several areas in Mumbai and suburbs received more than 200 mm rainfall since Monday night and heavy showers were likely to continue for the next 48 hours. Many houses in the low-lying areas like Kurla, Sion and parts of Bhandup were flooded due to the heavy downpour. Moreover, several vehicles, which suffered engine problems due to the heavy downpour, were seen lying abandoned on the roads.
