On Friday, June 3, CMO Maharashtra took to Twitter to proclaim a new scheme introduced by the MVA government for farmers of the state. The scheme named, "Vegetable Seed" looks to ensure the farmer's nutrition and a balanced diet.

According to the post, the scheme is anticipated to benefit more than 5 lakh farmers as well as their families in the state. The aim of the initiative is to enable nutritious yields for the farmers of the state. 

Through the scheme, vegetables with various vitamins will be inculcated in the farmer's diet. It is reported that farmers will be propelled to make use of the vegetables grown from these seeds for their families. 

Vegetable seeds that will be included in the scheme entail the likes of spinach, fenugreek, chakwat, soybean, caraway, safflower, amaranth and shepu, amongst others. 

The needs of the farmers have been in the limelight considering the many instances of suicide cases being reported. An RTI query revealed that an aggregate of 2,489 farmers have committed suicide in Maharashtra from January 1, 2021, to November 31, 2021

Herein the state revenue department had remarked that despite loan waiver schemes and many other drives of the government, farmers continue to commit suicide for their inability to repay loans or debt.
