On a day office opened with restricted staffing, Mumbai crossed the 50,000-mark with the number of coronavirus cases along with 4,071 buildings completely or partly sealed. As for the containment zone, the number now stands at 775.
The maximum number of sealed buildings are in the R-Central ward, the ward that comprises the Borivli, Gorai and Magathane belt. Next in line are P-South with 270 buildings and K-West which comprises of Andheri, Ville Parle and Juhu with 269 buildings.
On Monday, Mumbai reported 1,314 new cases and 64 deaths. The city also saw 842 recoveries, taking the tally to 22,038. While Mumbai has not permitted shopping malls, places of worship to reopen, the city's tally stood at 49,863 cases and 1700 deaths.
Meanwhile, in a positive development, the BMC has stated that Dharavi, Asia's largest slum, has seen a reduction in the growth of active COVID-19 cases and deaths. After the first case was reported in Dharavi on April 1, it emerged as a major COVID-19 hotspot in the city. There are 1,912 cases of coronavirus in Dharavi out of which 939 persons have recovered until now. Along with it, not a single COVID-19 death has been recorded in the slum since May 30. Only 13 cases were reported on June 7 as compared to 34 cases on June 1, 2020.
After the Centre's announcement of lockdown extension in containment zones, Maharashtra has authorized lockdown guidelines for the new extended lockdown 'Mission Begin Again' which will be valid till June 30, 2020. The state is to reopen in three different phases during this time. In addition to the Centre's guidelines for reopening in phases, the state of Maharashtra has imposed phase-wise reopening of activities in areas of MCGM (Mumbai), Municipal Corporations of Pune, Solapur, Aurangabad, Malegaon, Nashik, Dhule, Jalgaon, Akola, Amravati, and Nagpur.
