Considering that schools for grades 1 to 7 are set to reopen on December 15, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation’s (BMC) education department, wrote to its civic-operated schools to complete the preparations that include the vaccination of the staff, stated reports.

Standard Operating Procedures have been issued by the Maharashtra government that are required to be adhered to by the schools and parents when the educational establishments for grades 1-7 and 1-4 reopen in urban and rural areas, respectively, highlighted accounts.

According to the guidelines, teachers, school staff that include bus drivers, volunteers be completely vaccinated prior to joining work. Based on narratives, statistics from the BMC elucidate that the staff numbers of the civic authority’s education department, civic-run schools comprising teachers is 60,000.

Of these, 82 per cent are claimed to be completely inoculated. The BMC stated that whilst it is seeing to it that all its personnel are completely inoculated, many parents continue to remain apprehensive about sending their children to school.

Additionally, the BMC has also asked schools to conduct virtual parent-teacher meetings to solve the parent’s issues. In the 3,420 civic-operated and private schools in Mumbai, there are more than 10.50 lakh students.

Out of these, 2.92 lakh students are enrolled in civic-operated schools. The education department of the civic authority has asked the administration of the school to complete the preparation in the arriving 14 days and give in a report.

Whilst schools were slated to reopen on December 1, owing to the Omicron scare, the reopening was postponed to December 15.
