Maharashtra: Offline Colleges To Resume For Fully Vaccinated Students From February 1

On January 7, the government stopped all offline classes in colleges and universities and returned to the online study mode till February 15 in the wake of a massive spike in coronavirus cases.

Now, the Maharashtra government has decided to reopen colleges and universities from February 1, 2022. However, the administration stated that the colleges would not allow all students and also put some restrictions in place.

This development came as the coronavirus cases have gone down in Mumbai and other cities of the state.

Moreover, it is pertinent to note that this came days after the Maharashtra government resumed the physical classes for Std 1 to 12 on January 24.

State Higher and Technical Education Minister Uday Samant took to Twitter and announced that colleges in Maharashtra can resume offline teaching from the mentioned date. He submitted the proposal to the CM and Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray accepted the proposal of allowing this.

According to reports, along with inoculated teaching and non-teaching staff, only fully vaccinated students will be allowed to enter the campus; others can attend online classes. This decision was taken as the vaccination for age group 15-17 has already begun on January 3.

The minister further clarified that the final call to resume physical classes also rests with local administration and bodies as per the COVID-19 situation in their respective areas. It is not mandatory to attend offline classes.

For those unversed, on January 7, the government stopped all offline classes in colleges and universities and returned to the online study mode till February 15 in the wake of a massive spike in coronavirus cases driven largely by the Omicron variant of the COVID-19.
