Chembur - The Food and Drugs Administration has taken serious note of the incident on Sunday when a lizard was found in the food served to students at the government run Sant Eknath Boys' Government Hostel.

On Sunday afternoon, students had discovered a lizard in the lunch served to them.

The FDA will conduct an inspection of the premises, including the kitchen where the food is prepared, since it has been prima facie found that there have been violations of the FDA rules in the mess as well as the kitchen. An inquiry is being instituted against the contractor at the hostel kitchen which is run by the state social welfare department. If violations are found during the inquiry, action will be initiated against the contractor, according to FDA joint commissioner, food, Suresh Annapure.

The social welfare ministry which has taken serious note of the incident, has announced that the contractor will be suspended if found guilty, and the hostel warden and supervisors in charge of the food served could also face strict action.

With the FDA stepping in, matters should hopefully turn for the better.
