According to reports, the body of a patient who died of liver failure was released without waiting for COVID-19 test results. The Cardinal Gracious hospital released the body of the patient without waiting for the results.

All the people who came in contact with the body have been quarantined. Over 40 people had earlier attended the cremation of the individual. The hospital in Vasai is being held responsible for releasing the body before waiting for the test results. As per protocol, before a body is released to its family members there are tests that need to be conducted with reference to the coronavirus, so that the family members of the patient can be warned to follow the protocols just in case the patient was suffering from COVID-19.

According to civic authorities, the deceased was a 55-year-old man from Arnala. As per his religious beliefs, his body was cremated in the presence of all his family members. However, the general manager of the Vasai hospital in a statement has said that when the man was admitted it was not because of COVID-19. Hence, they released the deceased after getting multiple calls from the family members. He further added that it was the responsibility of the family members to maintain social distancing in order to safeguard themselves and others.
