The Ministry of Health declared that COVID-19 precaution doses will be available to those over the age of 18 from Sunday, April 10 at private vaccination centres across India. To be eligible for the same, the adults have to be above 18 and have completed nine months post the administration of the second dose against coronavirus.

Following the proclamation of the same, Dr Urvi Maheshwari Internal Medicine Specialist and Physician from Zynova Shalby Hospital, Ghatkopar said, "Vaccines for viruses are made every year depending on the strain of virus detected in that present year and it has an expiry date of one year. Hence everyone has to take that particular vaccine every year to boost their immunity against the same viral infection. Precaution doses to combat COVID-19 would definitely lower the seriousness of further infection in all adults. Coronavirus is highly infectious and has life-threatening complications in comparison to other viruses affecting adults hence we doctors are stressing more on booster dose of COVID-19 vaccine for all above 18 years of age to reduce morbidity and mortality"

In the aftermath of the resolution by the Union, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) remarked that they are ready to commence administering the precautionary dose at all 125 civic vaccination centres. They are awaiting the Centre’s direction for the allowance on the same.

Similarly, SL Raheja Hospital, Mahim-A Fortis Associate's Dr Sanjith Saseedharan, Consultant and Head Critical Care, remarked, "This is welcome news, that has come at the right time. Especially because many of the major cities have already or otherwise contemplating full relaxation of all COVID-19 restrictions. Since a percentage of the vulnerable population is completely vaccinated and bolstered, the remaining population which is large can now get their boosters. With the private hospitals being roped in, this drive will gain bigger momentum and with a larger reach will help people get their booster shots faster."

According to the latest reports, on Sunday, the booster around for 18-49 commenced on a timid note with few private hospitals offering the booster jabs. At the same time, certain hospitals are anticipated to begin administering the vaccines, starting Monday, April 11.
