Marine Drive, known for its scenic beauty, was witnessed slowly coming back to life with people walking, jogging and exercising on Thursday. The government had earlier allowed outdoor physical activity between 5 am to 7 pm.

The Central Industrial Security Force (CISF), along with the Mumbai Police, was deployed at Marine Drive in Mumbai to ensure that people follow social distancing rules. A day after Centre issued the Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) for reopening of hotels, restaurants, shopping malls, places of worship, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has issued a detailed ward wise guidelines for Mumbai in order to safeguard the citizens of Mumbai.

The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has authorized the Standard Operating Procedure to facilitate the reopening of hotels, restaurants, shopping malls, places of worship and other hospitality services. In the SOP for reopening of offices in the midst of the coronavirus pandemic, the Centre had stated that workplaces in containment zones shall continue to remain closed. The SOP has recommended entrances of workplaces to have mandatory sanitizers and thermal screening provisions. It has also advised facilitating meetings through video conferencing and communication. Social distancing norms should also be maintained adequately on the premises.

However, hospitality units in containment zones like restaurants and hotels will continue to remain closed. The SOP issued has also advised children below 10 years and persons above 65 years of age to stay home. The SOP has also stated the use of face masks and strictly prohibits spitting. It has also recommended the installation and use of the Aarogya Setu app which can detect coronavirus patients, as per the government. Furthermore, only asymptomatic staff and guests are to be allowed on the premises. Maharashtra at the moment has 74,861 cases of the coronavirus. This number happens to be the highest in the country. Mumbai has 43,492 cases of coronavirus itself.
