The MHADA authorities had received a letter titled ‘Man ki Baat’ a few days back. It was alleged in the letter that MHADA vice-chairman Sambhaji Zende collected a booty worth Rs 5 crore by promoting and transferring some engineers at the place and posts of their choice. Taking a serious note of this sensational letter, the housing ministry has ordered an inquiry into the allegations, informed principal secretary Sanjay Kumar while talking to Mumbai Live on Friday.
Housing minister Prakash Mehta has also verified the authenticity of this inquiry.
MHADA vice-chairman Sambhaji Zende retired from his service on April 30. Before his superannuation, Zende took the bribe of Rs 5 crore for promotions and transfers of MHADA engineers. The MHADA officials received the said letter three weeks back. The sender of this letter is said to be one D. Jadahv who has given all the details of promotion and transfer scam allegedly credited to Zende. As no other concrete information about the sender of this letter has come to fore, MHADA officials are trying hard to trace him. They have not yet succeeded in identifying D. Jadhav.
Meanwhile, the housing ministry has taken a serious note of this letter. The principal secretary had reportedly rebuked the MHADA officials in a meeting conducted last week. He has ordered the concerned officials to find out who is D. Jadhav and bring him for hearing on his allegations. The MHADA authorities have dispatched a notice to D. Jadhav on the address mentioned in his and asked him to appear before them for hearing on May 23, informed MHADA secretary Dr B. N. Bastewad.
It would be worth interesting to see whether D. Jadhav appears for the hearing or not.
As the probe has already started into the allegations levelled in the letter, the inquiry report would reveal the culprits. If concerned people are found guilty, action would surely be initiated against them, clarified the principal secretary of housing ministry.
With these revelations, the problems are staring at retired MHADA officer Sambhaji Zende.
