Coronavirus Crisis: Divyang persons in Maharashtra to get one-month ration

Amid the nationwide lockdown due to the increasing cases of the coronavirus or COVID-19, Maharashtra Government has announced that it will provide differently-abled persons with a month of ration during the 21-day period lockdown. 

This welfare measure taken by the Maharashtra government was announced by state Social Justice and Special Assistance Minister Dhananjay Munde amid the nationwide lockdown imposed to tackle the spread of the coronavirus or COVID-19. 

Munde informed that the district administrations across Maharashtra have been directed to reach out to the physically challenged persons and provide them with essential commodities to cope with the nationwide lockdown amid the coronavirus outbreak. 

“One-month pension in advance will be credited to the personal accounts of the eligible differently-abled persons,” the government announced while assuring that all essential items including the medical kits would be provided via doorstep service to those who don’t have the support of family or other relatives. 

“We have issued directives to all district officers to provide special care and reach out to Divyang persons. The local officials along with the police will reach out to them in their respective areas across the state with essential items including food grains, medical kits,” Dhananjay Munde was quoted in media reports as saying. 

The Maharashtra government also stated that if the differently-able persons step out to get essentials, they will not be subjected to any queue. The government is pressing on people to social distancing while venturing out on the streets to get essential commodities. 

 Earlier, in order to stop the migrant workers' exodus in major cities across Maharashtra amid the nationwide lockdown, Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray announced that the government will take care of the migrant workers and will provide them essentials including food while appealing them to not leave the state in the wake of the coronavirus outbreak. 

The Maharashtra government also halved the price of ‘Shiv Bhojan Thali’ considering that the plight of the migrant workers and labourers. The ‘Shiv Bhojan Thali’ will be served at 5 instead of 10.
