In order to restrain the never-ending unsolicited commercial calls, on July 19, the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) announced new regulations that have made the registration of businesses/telemarketers compulsory for making commercial calls and has also mandated subscribers’ consent for the same.
TRAI introduced the regulations by the name, Telecom Commercial Communication Customer Preference Regulations (TCCCPR), 2018.
Regarding the same, TRAI released a statement that said that the new rules offer “the subscriber with complete control over their consent and the ability to revoke the consent already granted, at their option.”

The statement further said that the commercial calls were a major abuse of current regulations and thus it had to be stopped. The new regulations, however, will diminish "the ability of unknown entities to reach their customers with calls and messages that are fraudulent or otherwise of dubious nature."
The regulatory body has also introduced the concept of registered templates for SMS and calls to avoid deliberate mixing of promotional messages into the transactional stream.
