MSRTC Strike: 2,053 employees suspended; Transport body suffers loss of 126 crores

MSRTC suspended another 1,135 employees for participation in the ongoing strike. Of which, the highest 138 employees are from Pune district, 64 were from Mumbai depots and 73 from Thane.

The strike by the Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC) employees enters the 16th day on November 12. However, it has come to light that the transport body has suffered a loss of INR 126.49 crores owing to the strike.

According to reports, the organisation is suffering a daily average loss between ₹10 crores and ₹25 crores.

Between October 27 and November 10 – the period the employees have been on strike – MSRTC has suffered a loss of ₹111.49 crores. On Thursday alone, November 11, MSRTC suffered loss of ₹15 crores.

On Thursday, MSRTC suspended another 1,135 employees for participation in the ongoing strike. Of which, the highest 138 employees are from Pune district, 64 were from Mumbai depots and 73 from Thane.

With this, the total number of staffers suspended so far has risen to 2,053.

Meanwhile, transport minister and MSRTC chairman Anil Parab said many workers wanted to return to work but were being prevented from doing so. He assured that workers wanting to resume will be provided security by the government. On the other hand, many commuters who depended on the alternate private transport complained of ‘shortage of vehicles’ and ‘overcharging’ across the state.

Moreover while speaking to the media, Parab said that the workers were being hindered by “political parties, including the BJP”.
