As per reports, the Mumbai-Pune hyperloop and the hyperloop corridor from Bengaluru city to the Kempegowda International Airport could be ready by 2029 based on approvals.

According to the CNBC TV 18, Virgin Hyperloop One has been in the works since 2017 which aims to reduce travel time between Mumbai and Pune to 25 minutes. The state government has deemed hyperloop a public infrastructure project and approved the Virgin Hyperloop One-DP World (VH-DPW) Consortium as the Original Project Proponent (OPP).

The hyperloop happens to be a futuristic transportation project that is touted to transport people in pods through tubes maintained at partial vacuum at speeds of up to 1000 km/hr.

Maharashtra Urban Development Minister Eknath Shinde had earlier informed that the state government was studying several aspects of the Mumbai-Pune hyperloop project. While speaking in the Maharashtra legislative council, Shinde had stated that the state government was studying the cost, land acquisition, and risk assessment as it was planning for the project.

Moreover, this project will be implemented using the Swiss Challenge Method. For those unaware with this method, in this method, an interested party initiates a proposal for a contract or the bid for a project. Post these details are received as the government makes details of the project public. The government then invites proposals from others. After receiving other bids, the original contractor gets an opportunity to match the best bid.
