According to the latest report, it has come to light that the movement of heavy goods vehicles, except those carrying essential items, will be stopped along the Mumbai-Goa highway till September 20.

This development comes along with other restrictions imposed on travellers going to Konkan during the Ganpati festival in the wake of coronavirus.

A Pune TRO official said that the closure was routine, and is undertaken every year during Ganeshotsav.

Moreover, the Maharashtra government has imposed restrictions and issued guidelines in order to prevent overcrowding at public places during festivals.


Days later, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) on Tuesday evening, September 7, issued guidelines for Ganesh Utsav this year. It has tightened the rules for Ganesh pandals this year due to the ongoing pandemic and the COVID-19 third wave that is to hit by October. According to the new guidelines, no mandals should allow physical darshan. However, BMC has allowed 10 members in sarvajanik mandals who will be permitted to become a part of arrival and immersion of the idol which has to be without procession, provided they are fully vaccinated.
