The cyclone that wreaked havoc in South India has claimed over 20 lives in Kerala and Tamil Nadu. Schools remains closed in Mumbai and neighbouring districts as a precautionary measure.

After the devastation in South India, Cyclone Ockhi has slowly moved towards Mumbai and Gujarat.

The Mumbai Meteorological Department had spoken of its impact in Mumbai and Konkan and now the effects are seen as Mumbai rains have come into the picture since Monday evening.

For this reason, the state government called for all schools to remain shut on Tuesday as a precautionary measure.

Although rain continued to pour in on Tuesday morning, the transport system wasn't badly affected. Trains were running on time but Monday evening saw traffic to be really bad.

The cyclone that held the "very severe" status has weakened into a "severe" cyclone and will make landfall near Surat and the Gulf of Khambat in Gujarat as a deep depression early on Wednesday.

For the next 24 hours, the weather department has predicted intermittent rains in the city.
