The Meteorological Department had predicted heavy rains this week and for a change they were proved right. With an intense showers lashing down on Mumbai, the city was immediately put on the back foot.
Strong winds and a torrential pour uprooted several trees around the city, causing damage to cars.

The Mumbai rains cripled another transport system for over 3 hours with flight SG-703 skidding due to the wet runway. While landing at the Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport(CSIA), the Varanasi-Bombay flight overshot the runway and got stuck in mud. All 183 passengers were safely evacuated without any casualties.
Mumbaikars are never short of a witty tweet or two about the BrihanMumbai Municipal Corporation. Everytime the mumbai weather gets relentless, social media is the go-to for criticising the BMC and other authorities. Having said that, the officials were deployed as soon as the clouds opened up in the afternoon.

With the Education Minister's past tweets going viral, fake news was rampant although there was no mention of a holiday. However, Vinod Tawde finally announced a holiday for schools and colleges in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region that would be compensated for during Diwali.
Heavy Rains have been predicted for the next 48 hours.

The BMC was strictly tested for the second time in a month after the heavy rain on 29th August. Although the situation was far better this time, their inability to provide basic infrastructure over the past decade has severely affected their standing. We might not experience a 26/7 every year but why push the limits in a super populous city like ours.
