The State Blood Transfusion Council has been gearing up since February to avoid blood shortage in summer. Therefore, enough blood is available in the blood banks till the first fortnight of April. The State Blood Transfusion Council has appealed to blood banks in the state to organise blood donation camps in April and May to ensure adequate supply of blood. But after the implementation of the code of conduct for the Lok Sabha elections, politicians have stopped organising blood donation camps. As a result, blood banks have faced a huge challenge in organising blood donation camps.

College youth is an important source of blood donation. But after the completion of school and college exams in March, summer vacations begin in April and May. Many citizens go to the village or out of town. The proportion of young people is more in this. Also, many blood donors also go abroad. Due to lack of blood donors, the organisation of blood donation camps is less. As a result, there is a huge shortage of blood during April-May every year. In this background, the State Blood Transfusion Council had started planning from February.

Government blood banks should organise blood donation camps at railway stations. Also, suggestions have been made that emphasis should be placed on blood collection by sending blood collection vehicles to housing societies. Although there is sufficient blood stock available in the blood banks, the state needs about five thousand units of blood every day.

At the same time, the time has come for the State Blood Transfusion Council to support social and religious organisations to organise blood donation camps. Blood will be collected from the camp organised through this. Political leaders conduct blood donation camps on a large scale. However, as the code of conduct for Lok Sabha elections has come into force, the political leaders have cancelled organising blood donation camps.
