It well-known that Andheri subway gets flooded easily during monsoon and the subway gets closed becoming a major concern and disruption to every Mumbaikar.

Every year the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) takes effort to tackle the problem. Despite, this issue remains unsolved. However, in its latest initiative, the civic body has decided to construct an alternative drainage system near the Andheri subway, aimed at improving water flow and reducing the risk of flooding.

The proposed project intends to construct a two-kilometer route stretching from the Andheri subway to Mogra Nullah. This additional 6 by 2.5-foot drain line is designed to redirect the substantial water flow.

The estimated cost of the project is INR 400 crores. The tendering process for the project is currently awaiting completion.

BMC aims to float the tenders by this monsoon, with the project expected to provide relief to Andheri by the next monsoon season.

Moreover, currently, BMC has floated tenders of INR 100 crores for widening Mogra nullah as an instant solution but even that will take at least 2 years for completion. The widening of the nullah will take place from SV Road, Veera Desai Road, and Bhardawadi Culvert.

This development comes as the BMC awaits the Bombay High Court (HC)'s decision on works related to Mogra pumping station land.
