Four soldiers were martyred while fighting terrorists on the Jammu-Kashmir border. Out of four soldiers, one was Major Kaustubh Prakash Rane, who was a Mira Road resident. 34-year-old Rane was the only child and is survived by wife Kanika, sister Kashyapi, 2-year-old son Agastya and parents Prakash Rane and Jyoti Rane.    
 
Major Kaustubh's native place was Konkan but he was residing in Mira Road for the last 30 years. He had completed his education from Holy Cross school. His father worked in Tata company while his mother is a teacher. Both his parents have retired.

Major Kaustubh’s uncle, Pratap Rane said he was kind and always used to help others. He had visited his home this January and that was their last meeting.

On Tuesday night, Major Kaustubh Prakash Kumar Rane, hawaldar Vikram Jeet and rifleman Mandeep Singh were killed during a fierce gunfight with militants in the Gurez sector of North Kashmir’s Bandipora district.
