In a first of its kind, recently a mobile pet cremation van was inaugurated at IC Colony, Borivali (West), Mumbai, on Sunday, July 9.

Former corporator Abhishek Ghosalkar, who launched the pet crematorium, said that a van has a cremation facility where animals such as dogs, cats and animals can be laid to rest on an electric furnace.

Owing to this, there will be no damage caused to the environment. This initiative has been taken through our NGO 'Happy Buds Foundation'.

It is presently situated at IC Colony but the van will travel around Dahisar, Borivali and Kandivali to cremate pets if the housing premises allow the cremation to be carried out. A no-objection certificate to the effect will be required, allowing the cremation on the premises.

At the same time, bereaved family members of any pet from anywhere in the city can avail of the facility provided they bring the pet's carcass to the spot where the facility is located. At the new facility, a cremation ceremony would take up to 20 minutes.

It will allow cremation of stray animals at no cost, but for pets, a fee of INR 3,000 will be levied. Ghosalkar clarified that the charges are levied only to take care of diesel and maintenance cost incurred.

Currently, the city has crematorium for pets at SPCA Parel and Pet Heavens -Dog Cat Burial and cremation Service in Mira-Bhayandar.
