'No Honking Day': Dadar, Chembur, Ghatkopar Has Most Violators

The Mumbai Traffic Police recorded a total of 2,117 cases on 'No Honking Day', which was observed on Wednesday, August 9. 

Of the total, 1,965 cases were registered against needless honking and 152 for using modified silencers.

On this day, the traffic branch also created awareness by carrying placards at various traffic junctions, about the ills of needless honking. School children, cabbies and auto drivers were also roped in, and carried placards.

Traffic Department further stated that maximum cases were reported in Chembur, Ghatkopar and Dadar.

The drive will be carried out again on August 16. With the initiative, Mumbai Police aimed at curbing noise pollution on the streets of the city. The traffic police officials also took action against motorists for violating the norms.

Earlier, in mid-June, Mumbai Traffic Police had booked 2,116 motorists for unnecessarily honking in the city. On June 13, the traffic police had issued 2,116 challans in a 24-hour period to motorists indulging in needless honking as part of its No Honking Day drive. Cops used decibel metres at junctions before and after the drive.
