The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) is all set to launch the final girder of the 136-meter-long bow-string bridge between April 18 and 19 in order to connect the coastal road with Bandra-Worli Sea Link. However, the road will be fully open by June 2024.

The bridge to be constructed between Coastal Road and Sea Link is 850 meters wide. Of this, 270 meters wide and the metal used for the bridge will be steel.

According to Coastal Road Deputy Chief Engineer M.M. Swamy, three girders of 46 m, 44 m and 60 m have already been launched for the construction of the bridge. On April 12, the arch of the 120-meter bow string bridge will be loaded into a barge at the Nhava village jetty. After that, the barge will proceed towards Worli.

Eight girders have been launched to bridge the gap between the Worli end of the coastal road and the sea link on the south side and the arch on the north side. The process of launching girders began in February.

The heaviest girder in the country weighing 2.5 thousand tons will be installed to connect the Bandra-Worli sea link. Due to this, a distance of 120 meters will be added and two lanes will be created on one side, said the municipality.

Coastal Road will get C-Link connectivity at Worli. Hence vehicles coming from Bandra to South Mumbai will not have to face traffic jams where the existing Sea Link ends at Worli. These vehicles can come directly to South Mumbai through Sea-Link to Coastal Road connectivity.
