The Bharatiya Mazdoor Sangh affiliated to the RSS, is organizing a nationwide protest against the privatization of companies such as PSU Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL) and National carrier Air India. Trade union president CK Saji Narayanan said that BMS is against any kind of divestment in the public sector, be it complete privatization or sale of a planned stake.
In a recently released statement, Bharatiya Mazdoor Sangh (BMS) on Friday mentioned that pro-privatisation lobby has painted all the PSUs as inefficient is false. "BMS expresses its anguish on the way in which government is selling public sector enterprises in India. PSUs in India had played a historical role in contributing to our economy. Even now it is playing its role well.Unfortunately, the pro-privatisation lobby painted all the PSUs as inefficient. It is also making false propaganda that the entire PSU sector is in loss, which is utterly false. PSUs performed well," it added.
As a way to revive the slow pace of the economy, the central government had earlier announced an increase from Rs 90,000 crore to Rs 1.05 lakh crore as its disinvestment target. The government plans to earn at least Rs 70,000 crore partially or completely from four companies, BPCL, Shipping Corporation of India, Container Corporation of India and Air India.
So far, the government has been able to raise Rs 17,354 crore, while PSU earns around Rs 1.70 lakh crore for the government every year, while more than 1 crore people work in dignified jobs. Narayanan said that private companies give priority to contract labor and are reducing the dignity of working opportunities in the private sector.
