Renowned bilingual novelist, Kiran Nagarkar breathed his last on Thursday, September 5 after suffering from a massive brain haemorrhage. Born in Mumbai in 1942, Kiran Nagarkar has been bestowed upon with the Sahitya Akademi Award and The Hindu Literary Prize among others.
Nagarkar was a novelist, playwright, drama and film critique in English and Marathi with his works majorly focusing on the theme of postcolonial India. One of his most notable works was The Cuckold for which he had won the Sahitya Akademi Award in 1997. Saat Sakkam Trechalis (i.e. Seven Sixes Are Forty Three) (1974), Ravan and Eddie (1994), Bhoj Raj (1997) and Rest In Peace (2015) were some of his notable contributions towards literature among others.
