Ayushmann Khurrana's Article 15 upsets the Brahmin community in UP

Anubhav Sinha's upcoming release, Article 15, with Ayushmann Khurrana, did garner attention since the trailer release. But the film has now upset the Brahmin community in Uttar Pradesh.

The community believes that the story has been 'tweaked' with an intent that will defame the Brahmin community. Commenting about the same, Kushal Tiwari a young student leader, who is a member of the Parshuram Sena, a Brahmin outfit, told the media, "If the film is based on the Badaun incident, where was the need to turn the accused into Brahmins? It is obvious that the intention is to malign the Brahmin community. We have started creating awareness about the issue and we will not allow the film to release here."

The trailer shows two young girls from marginalised families hanging from the tree in a village, after being raped and murdered. Based on 2014 Badaun rape and murder case, Article 15, throws light on the caste differences and equations which are being followed in some parts of the county.

Tiwari mentioned that the community was unaware of the subject during the shoot of the film in Lucknow. He further said that the Brahmins would fight for their honour in this film, comparing the situation to what Thakurs did by stalling the release of Padmavat. "We are launching a campaign on the social media and we have also been trying to contact the film director Anubhav but he has not been taking our calls," he added.
