Supreme Court clears ban on Padmaavat

Supreme court strikes down the ban on Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s film Padmaavat. States like Rajasthan, Haryana, Goa, Madhya Pradesh and Himachal Pradesh had imposed a ban on the film earlier, but as per the decision by the SC, the film will see a nation-wide release. The filmmaker had filed a petition few days back, against the states asking for a ban.

Today, the petitioner mentioned that states can’t touch the content of the movie, and the Supreme court also mentioned that the creative content is a part of freedom of speech and expression.

Lately, this historical film had received a green signal from the CBFC (Central Board of Film Certification). The association had recommended five modifications and a change in the film's title from Padmavati to 'Padmaavat'. The board has also asked for an addition of two disclaimers; one clarifying that the filmmakers do not claim historic precision, and a line says the film does not endorse the practice of Sati and Jauhar.

Starring Deepika Padukone as Rani Padmavati, Shahid Kapoor as Maharawal Ratan Singh and Ranveer Singh as Alauddin Khilji the film Padmaavat is all set to release on January 25, 2018.
