A new-born baby was found abandoned in an unsettling form in Mumbai’s Malad area.

According to reports, a day-old baby girl was covered in ants and had multiple bite wounds on her body.

The infant was found between two parked buses on Saturday, October 11.

She was immediately taken to a hospital for medical treatment. Meanwhile, the police have launched an investigation to locate her parents.

Police are checking CCTV footage to find out who abandoned the baby. They are also asking nearby hospitals and nursing homes for information about women who recently gave birth or had pregnancy-related checkups, in order to identify the mother.

According to the Bangur Nagar Police Station, the newborn was found by two officers, Rakesh Mane and Masoob Patil, who were patrolling the area. They spotted the girl at 11.30 pm near Malvani gate no. 5. They took her to a government hospital with the help of some locals. An officer informed that the girl is recovering well at the hospital.

The police have registered an FIR (First Information Report) under Section 93 of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (exposure and abandonment of a child under the age of 12).
