A major cultural initiative was unveiled at Bollywood Park, situated within Dadasaheb Phalke Filmcity, Goregaon East, with the inauguration of the 360-Degree Cinema. The launch was carried out by Maharashtra’s cultural minister, advocate Ashish Shelar, in the presence of several dignitaries from the entertainment industry. Among those present were Swati Mase Patil, Managing Director of Filmcity, deputy manager Sajnikar, Bollywood Park founder and director Santosh Ramineena Mijgar, Chirag Shah, and other notable personalities.

It was expressed by the cultural minister that the facility would not merely function as a new entertainment medium but would also reinforce Maharashtra’s standing as a center of culture and tourism. The innovation, according to him, would contribute significantly to strengthening the state’s cultural identity while drawing more visitors to Mumbai.

The concept of the cinema was elaborated upon by Santosh Mijgar, who explained that audiences would be fully surrounded by moving images, enabling them to feel immersed within the narrative. Viewers, it was noted, would experience the sensation of becoming part of the unfolding story.

A wide variety of lifelike experiences have been designed for the platform. Scenarios such as deep-sea diving, space exploration, volcanic activity, and jungle adventures are included, all presented with heightened realism. The initiative has been described as one that merges education with entertainment. Children are expected to benefit from science- and nature-oriented films, while families are expected to enjoy the opportunity of discovering novel experiences together.

Advanced technological features have been highlighted as a key element of the project. High-definition projection systems, along with 3D and 7D effects, are supported by surround sound to enhance the realism of the content. The director of Bollywood Park has emphasized that the offering extends beyond amusement, presenting a blend of knowledge, adventure, and lasting memories.

Filmcity itself has a rich history, having been established in 1977 to support India’s growing film industry. Spread across hundreds of acres, it has served as the shooting location for thousands of films and television serials, making it an iconic part of Mumbai’s cultural fabric. Over time, it has developed into one of the city’s most prominent tourist attractions, drawing visitors eager to witness sets, studios, and the environment where cinematic magic is created. By attracting both filmmakers and tourists, Filmcity not only strengthens Mumbai’s identity as the hub of Indian cinema but also contributes significantly to government revenues through tourism and film-related activities.

In 2019, a major boost was given to Filmcity’s future when Reliance Industries, led by Mukesh Ambani, announced plans to renovate and transform the complex into a world-class tourist destination. The proposal, backed by the state government, aimed at creating international-standard infrastructure, modern film studios, entertainment zones, and upgraded facilities for visitors. The vision was positioned as a step towards turning Filmcity into a global hub for both cinema production and tourism, further enhancing its economic and cultural significance.

With the inclusion of this cinema, Bollywood Park has sought to strengthen its appeal as one of Mumbai’s most visited destinations. Already popular for showcasing locations associated with celebrated films and television productions, the park is expected to gain additional prominence with the arrival of this immersive facility.
