Mumbai: 8-year-old girl died after plaster slab of high-rise falls on her

An eight-year-old girl lost her life on Monday evening, January 23, following a tragic incident where a portion of plaster from a ground-plus-24 storey under construction building fell on her in south Mumbai day earlier.

This incident occurred at the Shripati Apartments on Shrikant Palekar Road in Chandanwadi on Sunday evening, January 22, stated Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) officials.

The deceased has been identified as Krishna Patel. She was rushed to a hospital in Girgaon where she died at 1:30 am in the ICU, official exclaimed. Later, the debris was removed by the fire brigade, who also cordoned off the site as a precautionary measure.

According to witnesses, Krishna was walking by the building when a portion of plaster suddenly fell from the 24th floor and struck her. She was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital, but unfortunately, she succumbed to her injuries.

The police have registered a case under section 338 (causing grievous injuries by act endangering life) against the developer and site supervisor. However, following the girl's death, they have now added section 304 (A) (causing death due to negligence) to the FIR. An investigation is currently underway by the VP Road Police.
