On Thursday, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) Standing Committee gave the green signal for the proposal to extend the flyover near Borivali’s Kora Kendra. This was approved by the civic committee earlier with a cost escalation of 300%.

From nearly Rs 150cr, the construction cost is anticipated to jump to over Rs 650cr. The civic authority in 2018, had suggested the flyover in Borivali’s Kora Kendra area from the Link Road to SV Road. It measured nearly 930 meters and was at a cost of Rs 150cr.

However, recently, the civic authority proposed that the flyover be extended further to the Western Express Highway which would be an additional 860 meters. Although this extension is part of the same project, it will be considered a completely new phase of work that will be undertaken in Borivali East, stated civic officials according to the reports.

At present, the construction work is underway in Borivali west and the contractor employed for the said project has been given the extension work as well.

In other developments, the recently opened Ghatkopar-Mankhurd Flyover has been shut for repairs. This update comes a day after the death of a 34-year-old man and the sustaining of injuries of a 27-year-old post the skidding of their two-wheeler on the bridge.
