The High Court has granted bail to Mohammad Sarfaraz Mohammad Yusuf Shaikh (42), who was arrested in connection with the charge of causing the death of four people after his car hit several vehicles on the Bandra Worli Sea Link two years ago. The court mainly noted that Sheikh was granted bail considering that he had no intention behind the accident.
In this accident Sheikh himself while granting bail, a single bench of Justice Milind Jadhav clarified that he was seriously injured and was currently suffering from mental illness. Considering the evidence presented by the police in this case, it is evident that Sheikh had no ill intention behind the incident nor was it a premeditated act. In the order, the court mentioned that the government lawyers also accepted this matter while arguing. Similarly, while granting him bail, he was ordered to surrender his driver's license to the police for five years.
He has 15 years of driving experience and has never had an accident before. But on the day of the incident, while driving, he suddenly lost concentration and got dizzy and lost control of the car and caused the accident, claimed Sheikh while seeking bail.

Meanwhile, on November 9, 2023, Sheikh's Innova car hit several cars near the toll booth on the Bandra Worli Sea Bridge. Four people died in this accident, while six people were injured. Sheikh was also seriously injured in the accident. He was booked and later arrested for being responsible for the death of four people by reckless and negligent driving. It was a serious accident when the court decided on his bail plea. Four people lost their lives while others were injured, however, the accused was not under the influence of alcohol at the time of the incident and he himself was seriously injured in the accident, the court said in its order.
Moreover, Sheikh has become delusional due to his long stay in prison and has been hospitalised many times for psychiatric evaluation and treatment. Sheikh suffers from ailments such as irritability and aggressive behavior, trouble sleeping, seeing faces that others do not see. While granting him bail, the court also noted that he has been advised to undergo a psychological evaluation.
