The Bhandup-Sonapur Junction will remain completely closed to traffic for two days, on November 1 and 2, due to the erection of a 56-meter-long steel span for Metro Line 4. Residents of Bhandup, Mulund, and Kanjurmarg are likely to face heavy traffic during this period.
According to a report by Mid Day citing the Mumbai Traffic Police, the closure will apply to all vehicles except emergency services. Massive cranes, multi-axle trailers, and other heavy machinery will be deployed for the work, making it necessary to shut down the junction completely.
The closure will begin on November 1 at 10 pm and continue until 10 am on November 2. The second phase of the closure will take place on November 3 from 10 pm to 7 am. If the construction is not completed, the same road will be closed again next weekend, on November 9 and 10.
Traffic officials have also stated that one lane of LBS Road may remain closed for two months, from November 3 to December 31. During this period, motorists can expect partial restrictions on movement in the area.
Vehicles travelling from Powai and JVLR to Mulund via LBS Road will be diverted through a 2.5-kilometre detour before rejoining LBS Road at Mulund West. Traffic from Mulund West heading toward Powai will be rerouted through the Eastern Express Highway and JVLR.
Similarly, vehicles moving from Kanjurmarg and Bhandup West via LBS Road toward Mulund East and West will also be redirected, as movement will be restricted near Kalpana Chawla and Madhuban Garden close to Bhandup Police Station.
Metro Line 4, which connects Wadala and Kasarvadavali, spans 32.32 kilometres and includes 30 stations. The project will link several key transport systems, including the Eastern Express Highway, Central Railway, Mono Rail, Metro Line 2B (D N Nagar to Mandale), Metro Line 5 (Thane to Kalyan), and Metro Line 6 (Swami Samarth Nagar to Vikhroli).
Authorities have requested commuters to follow traffic diversions and avoid the affected junctions during the scheduled closure for smooth movement and public safety.
