The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) on Wednesday, May 13, launched an anti-encroachment operation in the Anand Nagar area of Malad West, clearing several unauthorised shops and hawkers from the locality as part of its ongoing citywide crackdown on such illegally occupied public spaces.

A video shared by Malad Culture on social media showed civic workers carrying out the demolition drive using a JCB machine, while police personnel were stationed at the site to ensure law and order throughout the operation. The footage captured officials removing temporary structures and clearing occupied public spaces in the area.

According to civic authorities, the drive was aimed at removing illegal roadside stalls and encroachments that were obstructing public movement and occupying footpaths and open spaces. In recent weeks, the BMC has stepped up similar actions across different parts of Mumbai to tackle unauthorised hawking and ease traffic and pedestrian congestion.

The operation in Malad West is part of the civic body’s broader initiative to reclaim public spaces and improve accessibility for residents by acting against illegal structures and roadside encroachments across the city.
