BMC commissioner Ajoy Mehta has asked all the civic authorities to try and convince families who have been staying in dilapidated buildings to relocate.

On Friday, the High Court summoned BMC commissioner Ajoy Mehta to remain present in court where he was asked to expedite the work of vacating dilapidated buildings where families are still residing. After which, he took a meeting with the additional commissioner and deputy commissioner where he ordered all the commissioners to carry out an awareness program regarding vacating the dilapidated buildings.

He has asked them to make posters which speak about the risks of residing in dilapidated buildings, which will be placed in the buildings.

In Mumbai, there are 642 dilapidated buildings out of which 22 buildings have been demolished and 120 have been evacuated. 154 buildings are stuck in a legal battle while 36 buildings are being inspected by a Technical Advisory Committee.
