As an impact of the Mumbai Live news on pending electricity bills of the BEST Undertaking of the BMC, municipal commissioner Ajoy Mehta has directed all the concerned civic offices to immediately clear the pending electricity bills to the tunes of Rs 12 crore.

Mumbai Live had reported that the Central, State governments offices as well as civic offices have not paid their electricity bills worth Rs 80 crore. It had also thrown light on the fact that the BEST authorities were seeking financial help from the BMC without taking efforts to get these pending bills cleared. Taking note of this news report, the municipal commissioner directed to all the heads of civic offices to immediately pay electricity bills without fail.

Meanwhile, the BEST general manager has reportedly rejected the plan to attend the UITP Global Public Transport Summit-2017 to be held at Montreal in Canada by giving the reason of loss of the undertaking. Importantly, the BEST committee had approved the study tour of the BEST general manager. The BEST has flatly rejected the proposal citing the financial crisis being faced by the undertaking.

BEST has recently bought 303 latest models of buses from Tata Motors. Out of 303, it has received 75 buses which will be dedicated to public at Wadala bus depot at the hands of Yuva Sena president Aditya Thackeray on Tuesday. Industries minister Subhash Desai, transport minister Diwakar Raote, Mayor Vishwanath Mahadeshwar, BMC leader, municipal commissioner and other dignitaries will attend this programme.
