Mumbai’s civic body, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has decided to procure 24 new vehicles from the Mahindra & Mahindra company for its political office bearers and officials.

According to sources, INR 2,76,99,000 is touted to be spent for the same. Moreover, these are to reach the civic body officials in the next three months.

The Municipal Corporation provides vehicles to the Mayor, Statutory Committees, Special Committees, Chairpersons of Ward Committees, Commissioners, Additional Commissioners, Deputy Commissioners, Assistant Commissioners and Heads of Departments. The existing vehicles used by important office bearers and officials have been used for more than their capacity and have started to break down frequently.

As Mahindra & Mahindra is the sole supplier of these vehicles, the vehicles will be procured through the government-approved Government e-Marketplace (James) portal. The vehicles will be available at 13.40 per cent less than the market price.

On the other hand, earlier on Sunday, July 4, the BMC halted an exhibition that was organized at a five-star hotel in the western suburbs in view of the coronavirus induced restrictions.

This came after the Federation of Retail Traders Welfare Association (FRTWA) registered its complaints with the BMC. Moreover, the association stated that while on weekends, non-essential shops are not permitted to stay open, exhibitions in star hotels on weekends violate the state government’s rules. According to reports, an exhibition named ‘Indian Wedding Expo’ was organised on Sunday between 10 am and 8 pm.
