Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation issued a notice to the owners of the renowned Army canteen situated at Kala Ghoda asking them to stop their operations within 24 hours. The restaurant is a part of the 156-year-old structure called Esplanade Mansion. According to BMC, the building has been marked as a “dangerous” structure.

The civic body has asked the owners to shut their business until the experts from Indian Institute of Technology Bombay (IIT-B) carry out and submit the structural audit report to Bombay High Court.

The BMC had given strict orders to close the Army canteen within 24 hours or else they would seal it. Earlier in 2011, the Esplanade Mansion which was built in the year 1863 was declared “ramshackle” and “dangerous” by the Maharashtra Housing and Area Development Authority (MHADA) repair board.
