BMC to educate vendors, hawkers regarding the use of plastic bag

The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) plans to educate vendors and hawkers in the city about the usage of plastic. This campaign is against the one-time-use plastic and the civic body will inform them regarding the harm of using plastic bags. 

Meanwhile, the civic body collects almost 100 kg plastic in the city every day. The retailers have been guided to ensure that the plastic bag which they use should weight two grams and the plastic bag should be of 500 microns (μm).

From June 23, BMC has recovered more than 30,000 kg of restricted plastic. Until now, 288 people have been prosecuted for the use of plastic and has collected a fine worth ₹1.5 crore.
