BMC to give photocopy machines to physically challenged people

Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has decided to provide self employment opportunities for the physically challenged people by providing them with xerox machines. The civic body will be spending ₹3 Cr on this proposal. The applications for distribution of the machines will be completed by 2019 and handled by joint commissioner for planning.

On Tuesday, a proposal was passed in the Standing Committee meeting which stated that 300 Xerox machines will be provided to 300 candidates who have a domicile certificate.

Eligible candidates who wish to apply for this scheme

  • The candidates should be minimum 18-years-old and not more than 60-years-old

  • The annual income of the candidates should not be more than ₹1 lakh and should have a disability certificate showing 40 per cent of disability, approved by All India Institute of Physical and Medicine and Rehabilitation

As only 300 xerox machines will be distributed, the selection process will be carried out through a lottery system. Candidates have to submit their application forms with their documents, aadhaar card, pan card, and yellow or orange ration cards. The cost of the machine is approximately ₹95,000, of which BMC will give ₹90,250 and the candidate will have to pay the remaining ₹4,750. 

Prior to this, the BMC had distributed three-tyre scooters to physically challenged people. They received a good response and still receiving applications for it.
