Bombay High Court on Friday refused to entertain a petition seeking a stay on the construction of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj memorial in Mumbai. The court strictly refused to provide an interim stay on the ongoing project.
Maharashtra government has already issued a tender to Larsen & Toubro (L&T) construction company with over a budget of ₹3600 crore for the memorial. With the reclamation work ongoing, this is a relief to the state government. However, several environmentalists, organisations, and fisherman community are protesting against the memorial.

There have been several petitions filed against the memorial saying that no money should be spent on the construction of Shivaji memorial because the state is facing severe drought. While some petitions have focused on the problems of the fisherman community and others have stated that the Maharashtra government has not taken proper permissions for the project.
However, the Maharashtra government has clarified that they have taken all the necessary permissions for the project. It also said that the cost of the project will be covered by the tourists. The state government also said that people aren’t facing any issues due to this project.
