Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Wednesday announced that the state government has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Cleveland Clinic, Brookfield Asset Management and Arodhan Health City for the development of the Navi Mumbai International Medicity (NMIMC).
The project is being positioned as one of India’s first world-class ecosystems for healthcare, medical research and innovation.
$1.2 Billion Investment, 10,000 Jobs
The Medicity project will be developed across 250 acres in Navi Mumbai with an estimated investment of $1.2 billion (approximately INR 10,000 crore).
The project is expected to:
Generate around 10,000 jobs
Provide world-class healthcare services
Boost medical research and innovation
Focus on AI, Genomics and Advanced Research
Fadnavis said the Medicity will integrate advanced healthcare services with cutting-edge technologies such as Artificial Intelligence (AI), genomics and clinical research. The initiative aims to create a state-of-the-art ecosystem for medical diagnosis, treatment and research in India.
Cleveland Clinic to Lead Healthcare Operations
Cleveland Clinic will serve as the principal healthcare partner in the project, bringing its globally recognised expertise in patient care, medical research and innovation.
The MoU signing ceremony was attended by Cleveland Clinic CEO Tomislav Mihaljevic, Chairman of Cardiovascular Medicine Sameer Kapadia, industrialist Lakshmi Mittal and other senior officials.
Boost to ‘Heal in India’ Mission
The project aligns with the Government of India’s ‘Heal in India’ initiative and is expected to strengthen the country's ambition of becoming a global destination for medical tourism, healthcare innovation and research.
Medical Education and Research Hub
In addition to patient care, the Medicity will focus on:
Medical education
Training of doctors and healthcare professionals
Research and innovation
AI-driven healthcare solutions
According to officials, the project will not only expand India’s specialised healthcare capacity but also promote collaboration between Indian and international medical institutions, further enhancing the country's healthcare ecosystem.
