Central Railway (CR)'s Railway Protection Force in collaboration with the Yatri App launched the SOS Safety feature in Yatri App, on June 23, 2026, to enhance the security of Women commuters on Mumbai’s suburban network.

The feature was officially inaugurated at a launch event held at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT) railway station. The Divisional Security Commissioner (DSC), Mumbai Division Central Railway, Senior Officers of Central Railway, Founder and Co-Founders of -Yatri App staff of Central Railway and Yatri App were also present during the event.

Mumbai's local railway network is one of the largest and busiest in the world, serving lakhs of women commuters every day. The SOS feature provides these commuters with a direct, technology-powered link to the RPF in moments of distress while travelling on local trains, platforms, foot-over bridges (FOBs), or station areas. Upon activation, the feature automatically shares the commuter’s live location and key journey details—including train number, route, rake information, and nearest stations—to enable faster identification and a more effective response.

How the SOS Feature Works

  • Targeted Visibility: The SOS icon is visible only to users who have selected female as their gender profile in the Yatri app.
  • Night-time Security: The feature is actively monitored and operational daily from 10:00 PM to 6:00 AM.
  • Accidental Protection: A 5-second cancellation window helps prevent accidental alerts.
  • Automated Data Sharing: Unlike traditional emergency helplines, no manual location sharing is required. once triggered, the alert instantly securely transmits live location, train number, route, rake information, and nearest stations straight to the RPF Control Room.
