Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the Navi Mumbai International Airport (NMIA) at 2.40 pm on October 8. However, it will be operational from December.

Therefore, considering the VVIP movement, the Navi Mumbai Traffic Police has imposed important restrictions from 6 am till 10 pm on October 8 to ensure smooth flow of vehicles.

Heavy Vehicles Ban:

The Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic) has issued a notification prohibiting all types of heavy goods vehicles from plying, entering and parking on roads within its jurisdiction.

The main objective behind this decision is to ensure that there is no traffic jam during the movement of the Prime Minister's convoy.

Enforcement and blockade:

The transport department has made extensive preparations to ensure strict compliance with these rules.

Blockade: Heavy vehicles will be prevented from entering Navi Mumbai at the toll plazas at Vashi and Airoli.

Atal Setu: Heavy vehicles coming from Mumbai via 'Atal Setu' will also be stopped from entering Navi Mumbai.

Police deployment: A huge police force will be deployed on the routes of the 'VVIP movement' and especially on the roads leading to the airport, sources have informed.

Meanwhile, separate parking arrangements have been made at the venue for those coming in private buses for the airport inauguration ceremony. The traffic police have also made special arrangements to ensure that private buses do not face any obstacles while returning to their destinations after the ceremony.

Exemption for several vehicles:

Some vehicles providing essential services have been exempted from this ban, so that the citizens do not suffer any inconvenience. These include ambulances, police vehicles, fire brigade vehicles, government vehicles, passenger buses and vehicles transporting essential goods.
