In another step towards strengthening last-mile connectivity through digital mobility integration, the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) and Maha Mumbai Metro Operation Corporation Limited (MMMOCL) have enabled booking of quick response (QR)-code-based tickets for Metro Lines 2A and 7 directly on Uber app, using the Open Network for Digital Commerce (ONDC).
Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis announced on Wednesday, March 18 stating that metro tickets can now be booked directly through the Uber app via ONDC, helping citizens plan their journeys easily and connect seamlessly with last-mile transport options.
The feature will initially be available for Metro Lines 2A and 7, with Lines 9 and 2B to follow.
Additionally, commuters can purchase tickets using the app and receive an instant 50 per cent discount, capped at INR 10.
Metro ticketing is already available across several ONDC platforms including Yatri, Ixigo, Navi, EMT, Tummoc, Tripozo, One Ticket, Autope, Magicpin, Chalo, RedBus, Highway Delite and Pelocal.
With Mumbai One App, Mumbai One Card, WhatsApp ticketing, and now Uber integration, commuters have multiple convenient ways to access Metro services.
Metro Line 2A runs between Dahisar East and DN Nagar while Metro 7 runs on the route from Dahisar East to Andheri East. As many as 70 per cent of passengers on this route currently book tickets online.
Data reveals that lines 2A and 7 currently serve over 3.5 lakh passengers every day.
Apart from this, BEST bus connectivity, foot overbridges and parking facilities near Metro stations are being strengthened to make the first-mile and last-mile journey easier.
