An escalator at Dombivli railway station has been shut after rainwater entered its machinery following heavy showers, causing inconvenience to thousands of daily commuters.

The escalator, located on Dr. Roth Road in Dombivli East, has remained closed for the past two days after waterlogging damaged the system. It is widely used by commuters travelling from areas such as Sunil Nagar, Rajaji Path, Mhatre Nagar and Aayre village to access the railway station.

With the escalator out of service, passengers have been forced to use the adjacent staircase, posing difficulties for senior citizens and those with heart or respiratory ailments.

Commuters said the area experiences severe waterlogging even after moderate rainfall, with water levels rising up to three to four feet during heavy showers.

They have urged the railway administration to raise the height of the escalator's electrical equipment to prevent rainwater from entering the system and to implement a permanent solution before future monsoon spells.
