The Mumbai Municipal Corporation is undertaking noteworthy steps to curtail the risk posed by high-risk buildings in the city. In the past three months, from April to June 30, they have managed to cut the electricity and water supply of 154 high-risk buildings. These efforts have come into force in the milieu of the BMC attempting to demolish buildings despite repeated efforts.

So far, the BMC has managed to demolish 148 dangerous buildings. Those who have complied and vacated their homes have been relocated to transition camps. Since monsoon poses a threat to unstable buildings, the authorities are looking at solutions. With a total of 407 buildings in critical condition, 98 have been evacuated. Furthermore, before the crackdown on 21 high-risk buildings, the Technical Advisory Committee will be consulted. Whilst the case of 53 high-risk buildings is justified, 81 have not been vacated owing to technical reasons for which the electricity and water supply remains in place.

An analysis of all the unsafe buildings in the 24 administrative divisions of NMC, hill slopes of NMC have been undertaken. Action against the encroachers will be initiated in accordance with the rules of the Emergency Management Act 2005. BMC Commissioner Iqbal Singh Chahal has ordered immediate action against these hazardous buildings to avert loss of life and property damage due to a possible collapse.
