Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has directed the police to take strict action against violations involving DJs, loudspeakers and firecrackers during the upcoming Ganeshotsav celebrations.
Fadnavis issued the directions during a meeting at Sahyadri Guest House in Mumbai to review law and order and preparations for the festival. He also instructed authorities to ensure that Ganesh mandals strictly follow Food and Drug Administration (FDA) regulations while distributing prasad.
The Chief Minister stressed that the festival should be celebrated with discipline and in a peaceful atmosphere while preserving its traditional and social significance. He called for close coordination between the administration, police, civic authorities, Ganesh mandals and coordination committees.
Fadnavis also referred to a recent meeting in Pune, where he directed the police to take firm action against people creating disturbances over DJ systems and noise levels during Ganeshotsav.
Authorities have been asked to ensure that procession and immersion routes in Mumbai, Pune and other cities remain in good condition, free of potholes and adequately lit at night. Police have also been instructed to monitor violations involving firecrackers and loudspeakers and take appropriate legal action.
The Chief Minister said that the widespread participation in Ganeshotsav, particularly in Mumbai, was commendable, but maintaining discipline and the sanctity of the festival remains a collective responsibility.
Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde also urged the government, police, civic bodies and Ganesh mandals to work together to ensure safe and orderly idol processions and immersions.
The government further stated that arrangements were being made to prevent pollution caused by the immersion of Plaster of Paris idols in rivers and the sea, in accordance with the directions of the Bombay High Court.
