Mumbai: Free food for registered workers only

For construction workers in building and other construction occupations, from July 1, 2023, free food is being distributed to only registered workers,  Labour Minister Suresh Khade informed the Legislative Council. 

Member of the Legislative Council Eknathrao Khadse presented the scheme implemented by the Building and Other Construction Welfare Board for the construction workers in the building and other construction business.

Labour Minister Khade said that various schemes are implemented by the Building and Other Construction Welfare Board for the registered construction workers. Under this scheme two meals are provided to the construction workers. In the COVID period, along with construction workers, undocumented workers and unregistered workers have also benefited from this scheme.

There are 26 lakh 38 thousand organised registered workers and 3 crore 54 lakh unorganised workers in the state. The labour registration work is still going on and if anyone has any complaint about it, we will investigate it. Action will be taken against the culprits. A meeting will be organised soon for the suggestions of various members.
