One of the country's most vibrant festivals, Ganesh Chaturthi is all set to begin soon and as it draws closer, Mumbaikars have begun preparations for the same. However, it seems like the devotees will have to think twice before offering dry fruits as 'prasad' to the deity since its prices have soared just days before the festival.
The country is already witnessing an economic slowdown and amidst the bearishness, dry fruit prices have risen by 25 per cent as compared to the last year's prices. Meanwhile, the major concern is for the devotees who welcome Ganpati Bappa at home as the prices have soared just a week prior to Ganesh Chaturthi.
The dry fruits are in constant demand during festivals and accordingly, due to the growing demand, the traders have increased the prices by 25 per cent this year. The delicacies arrive in Mumbai from nations such as Afghanistan, Iran, and Iraq, which might also be one of the reasons for the inflated prices.
